Custom Suits for the Festive Season

It is that time of year when Holiday parties are abundant, and we want to look our best. We feel a little more inclined to play with textures, colors, and patterns that we might not normally incorporate into our day-to-day wardrobe. Here is a list of the most timeless trends for festive tailoring to make your custom suits even more special for the season.

Velvet Dinner Jackets

The first and by far most popular choice is the velvet dinner jacket. It can be done in many different colors and types of velvet as well as different levels of boldness. Some might stick to a classic black velvet jacket paired with black dress pants to let the texture be the wow factor while others might want to incorporate colors for a twist to a classic menswear piece.

We love velvet for this time of year for its beautiful texture but also for the added warmth due to the thickness of the fabric. If you are considering a velvet dinner jacket, there are two things to keep in mind: 1) Velvets are often made from synthetic fibers that break easily but also increase body heat quite drastically. We, therefore, recommended velvets that are made from cotton instead for a more durable and comfortable jacket. 2) Because velvet dinner jackets often are statement pieces a lot of people don't consider them investment pieces. However, we think velvet jackets are timeless, festive, and celebratory garments, and therefore are worth getting made custom as their texture never goes out of style. Tuxedos

If velvets are too much, a tuxedo is an ultimate option for festive clothing and the great thing about tuxedos is that they are more easily worn to weddings and other formal occasions. The most classic tuxedo style choices are black and midnight blue wools with black grosgrain silk facings. The more muted colors and the sleeker lines of tuxedos over velvet dinner jackets are great options for people who might attend formal events more semi-regularly or just want to invest in a timeless piece that will work year after year for any season and for dressier occasions.

We love a classic tuxedo for how well it bridges dress clothes, formal wear, and celebratory garments. We always recommend a custom tuxedo jacket made and paired with custom-made dress pants without the traditional silk trim. That way the pants can be worn time and time again for work events, date nights, business casual events, etc. and the tuxedo jacket can be pulled out for special occasions. Sparkles and Patterns

Now if a classic tuxedo is enticing but perhaps you already own a tuxedo jacket and are looking to do something new and more exciting, perhaps consider could be sparkles or patterns. Where the velvet dinner jacket's main appeal is its texture, sparkles, and patterns will have the same texture and feel as traditional wool fabrics but with that same wow effect as velvet jackets. If you are not looking to have a full custom suit in bold patterns, do a custom-made jacket with a lot of personality paired with classic dress pants in a complementary (or contrasting) solid color. We have many options for sparkles and patterns such as paisley, floral, skulls, and geometrics in both our made-to-measure make and our bespoke make.

Silk Shirts and Suits

Much the same way that velvets contrast and add something to an outfit through its texture, silk is a fantastic way to add layers and visual depth through a different textural experience. Silk suits are fragile due to the fineness of silk fibers, so if you are looking to have a full suit in silk, we always recommended having it done bespoke. The glue used to fuse ready-to-wear suits together damages the silk too easily, whereas the canvassing used to hold a truly handmade suit together will add structure to the garment and thereby allow it to hold its shape better and last longer.

If you are attracted to the beautiful feel and texture of silk but want something less high-maintenance to care for, a silk shirt might be the way to go. We carry a large selection of brushed silks, raw silks, refined, shiny, and texture silks for any look that your heart might desire. We also have pattern silks for those who are looking for more of a statement and personality to their garments. You can read more about our bespoke shirts here.

The Classic Black

A classic black suit is a wonderful option for those who are looking for a more paired back staple in their wardrobe that is suitable for different types of occasions. While a black suit can seem conservative, getting it custom-made allows you to put any twist on the design or fit that you'd like. Maybe you want flashy buttons, and pops of color in the buttonholes, maybe you are looking for a unique lining, or maybe you want a classic black two-piece suit to pair with a stand-out shirt or vest. The choice is completely yours and with a custom-made suit we work with you to find the design and fit of your dreams.
